James Milner put the Reds ahead from the penalty spot early in the second half, but an 69th-minute equaliser from Sergio Aguero ensured a draw at the Etihad Stadium.
“The summary of the game is positive,” the German said after reflecting on missed chances.
“We gave them the opportunity to score and they did it. That’s how it is. It’s not that I’m not satisfied; it’s more than that actually, I expect things like this from us. I cannot run around after a draw against Man City. But, of course it’s a success.”
Although Klopp thought the Reds “deserved to win a little bit more”, the draw keeps them in the top four, with Manchester United and Arsenal close behind.
“We are still in a battle, that’s how it is,” Klopp said on Champions League qualification. “There is one outstanding side this year and they will be champions probably. That is then well deserved and all the rest fight with all they have for the Champions League.”
